Hiring! Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

The Town of Kilmarnock, VA is seeking candidates to fill a position at its .5 MGD wastewater treatment facility. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely, work outdoors and perform maintenance tasks that are sometimes physically demanding. Applicants are expected to get a Class IV Virginia Waste Water operator’s license within twenty four (24) months of hire. The position is expected to monitor and maintain the treatment
process and make adjustments as necessary. Preference will be given to candidates with a current Virginia WWTP license.

Key responsibilities include:

Daily inspections of processes at the waste water treatment plant
Clean equipment and surfaces as needed
Take samples and perform routine tests
Operating solids handling facilities
Assist, as needed, with repairs, sometimes at night and on weekends.

Work hours are 6:00am to 3:30pm Tuesday through Friday and 6:00 am to 10: 00 am on Saturday with occasional evenings as assigned. High school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license is required.

Salary Range: $35,000-$45,000 ($16.83- $21.64 per hour-based on qualifications) with medical, dental, Virginia Retirement System and other benefits included. This full-time role has the following excellent benefits:

Plus, earn Vacation and Sick Leave from Day 1 of employment. Vacation leave is earned at a rate of 40 hours for the first year of employment. Sick leave is earned at a rate of 3.09 hours per pay cycle.
There is a 90-day probationary period for all hires.
