Kilmarnock’s Planning and Zoning Department manages the town’s ordinances and zoning districts. Here you can find access to ordinances and regulations as well as frequently used codes. Appeals of zoning decisions and variance of the ordinance are handled by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Board of Zoning Appeals
The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five members appointed by the Circuit Court of Lancaster County. The Board decides on appeals from any order, requirement, decision or determination made by an administrative officer. The Board also has the power to authorize upon appeal in specific cases, such variance from the zoning ordinance as will not be contrary to the public interest when, owing to special conditions, a literal enforcement of the provisions will result in unnecessary hardship.
