Come enjoy Kilmarnocks , Baylor Park, located on the northern edge of Kilmarnock on Rt. 3.

Named for Dr. Richard Baylor, the founder and devoted physician of the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic, this park includes a nearly half mile long nature trail that follows an old road around the boundaries of Norris Pond. The trail is part of the Virginias birding and wildlife trails, you can view waterfowl, native plants and enjoy the outdoors along this quiet stretch of ground. The nature trail features environmental education opportunities for the public to enjoy.

Located at 770 N. Main St, off Rt. 3 (Main St.) between Old Fair Grounds Way and Good Luck Road. The entrance is only accessible from northbound Rt. 3, on the right just before the bottom of the hill. Parking is available on site.

The trail is open sunrise to sunset daily. There are several ground rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit to Baylor Park.

  • No hunting or trapping allowed.
  • Use of fire is prohibited (included but not limited to  smoking tobacco products, fireworks, and campfires).
  • No alcohol\drugs allowed,
  • No loud, obnoxious or obscene behavior.
  • No fishing, wading, swimming, boating or ice skating within Norris Pond or streams.
  • Children under the age of 12 years old shall  be under the direct supervision of an adult.
  • Pets must remain leashed and under their owners control at all times.
  • No overnight camping.
  • Do not touch, be friend, feed or help any wild animal you encounter.
  • Do not remove, destroy, or harm any plant or animal.
  • All motorized vehicles of any kind or size are strictly forbidden beyond parking lot.
  • Bicycles are allowed and shall yield to pedestrian at all times.
  • Horseback riding is not allowed.
  • Picnics are permitted in designated picnic areas.
  • Do not litter. Dispose of trash in appropriate receptacles.
  • Do not trespass outside the boundaries of the nature trail.
  • Use of the parking area is for nature trail visitors only. No loitering.
  • Do not remove, destroy or tamper with trails structures (including but not limited to signs, benches, picnic tables, decks, boardwalks, trash receptacles, gates, barriers and fences.)

The pond itself is private property and not a part of the park.

The Town of Kilmarnock, and its staff, shall not be held liable for any person or persons property. Persons using the nature trail and parking area are responsible for their own safety and do so at their own risk. Terrain involves steep slopes and areas of rough, uneven ground. Appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended.

Persons found violating any of the above regulations will be removed and prosecuted.
