Celebrating our Hometown Heroes
Memorial Day to Labor Day Annually
“Celebrating Hometown Heroes” Walking Tour honors military veterans from WWI to Desert Storm with banners throughout our Steptoe’s dining and shopping district. Take this self-guided, walking tour of over 200 banners and learn the stories of these veterans as you stroll Main Street.
On display all summer long, these banners honor these heroes and their service. Grab a story booklet at the Town Hall at 1 N. Main Street and learn more about the contributions of these Hometown Heroes. Makes a great family event and totally FREE.
Each year a booklet is created of all the banners that are displayed including the hero’s picture and a brief biography.

The banners are kept at the Town Hall in the “off season”. Each family can request their banner be returned to them at any time. Once returned, the banner belongs to the family.
After 5 seasons of display, individual banners will be ‘retired”. Families will be notified in the fall following removal and can be picked up at the Town Hall. Please contact Town Hall at 804-435-1552 to arrange for pick up. Unclaimed banners will be disposed of after 60 days. Families that want to renew their banners will have to reorder and pay for the duplicate banner by the April 1 due date of the following year.
No order is placed until payment is received in full.
Banner locations are at the sole discretion of the Town of Kilmarnock.
