Field Utility Technician: Water\Sewer Systems Operations

The Town of Kilmarnock, VA is seeking candidates to fill a full-time position supporting our water systems including wells, water distribution system and sewer collection system. This role supports Kilmarnock’s water utility operations, reads meters, traces utility lines, performs inspections and testing related to wells, and water and sewer distribution systems. Interacts with residential and commercial accounts as well as other utility providers, contractors and inspectors. Role is part of a larger Utilities and Public Works team: other tasks may be assigned to support the team’s objectives. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely, work outdoors and perform maintenance tasks that are sometimes physically demanding.

Key responsibilities include:

• Install and replace water meters
• Monthly water meter reading
• Daily inspections of water systems processes at all wells
• Daily inspections of sewer collection systems
• Clean equipment and surfaces as needed
• Take samples and perform routine tests
• Assist, as needed, with repairs, sometimes at night and on weekends.
• Works with Miss Utility for line identification

Work hours are 6am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday with evening and weekend shifts as required. High school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.
