CodeRed Notification System
The Town of Kilmarnock has announced that it has implemented the CodeRED system, a high-speed emergency notification service as of June 3, 2014.
The Town anticipates using the system to notify residents in specific geographic locations of issues such as water service emergencies or planned maintenance work on utilities or issues of community awareness such as boil water alerts, street closures or emergency response. We expect this to be especially helpful in a major event such as a hurricane.
The CodeRED system will serve as part of Kilmarnock’s emergency planning and communications outreach to both citizens and businesses by using the system’s capabilities to send telephone calls, text messages, emails and social media to effectively inform residents of emergency and service situations. CodeRED is also in use by Lancaster and Northumberland counties. Separate registrations are needed for those areas.
The Town has been provided an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers, however all residents or businesses within the Town of Kilmarnock limits are encouraged to click on the CodeRED logo to enroll additional contact information including cell phone numbers, text and email addresses. A mobile app link is also available. Additional information will be included in water bills mailed in May and June. For those without internet access or for more information, please call the Town office at 804.435.1552 and press “0”.
Public safety officials across the United States have credited CodeRED notifications for many successful events including locating missing children, apprehending wanted criminals and issuing timely evacuations.
